I just watched TX congressional candidate Richard Morrison's first TV ad (Morrison is a dailyKos dozen member running against Tom DeLay).
I really like what I know about Morrison and have given him some money through dailyKos, but this ad seems to me to be Exhibit A in how not to win as a challenger.
That Morrison is a nice guy who listens and doesn't want to be the most powerful man in D.C. is great. People are only going to jump ship from DeLay, though, under two conditions: (1) they find out really bad stuff about DeLay and (2) the challenger is a compelling alternative. Morrison's ad barely alludes to any criticism of DeLay (only the mention of wanting to represent the District not be the most powerful man in D.C.) and says nothing whatsoever about his own qualifications for Congress. I actually got a bit of a feeling from the ad that Morrison's interest in being in Congress was not entirely wholehearted.
What do you folks think?
